Scottish Success!

Gillian and friends

Gillian Geates surpassed all her expectations when she raised a staggering £11,160 at her Charity Fun Day this July! Following the tragic loss of her good friend Eunice Dow earlier this year, Gillian organised this fantastic event at the Scottish Police College in Fife. Teams took part in lots of activities from Egg ‘n Spoon to a Big Tyre Push, before a BBQ and disco in the evening. Many thanks to Gillian’s family, friends, local community and Bannatynes Gyms for making this such a huge success!

Family Fun Day

Nicola and Dad

Despite the rainy weather in Wigan, Nicola Darwin brought about some summer sunshine with her Family Fun Day! Local residents enjoyed a fun-filled day, with lots of activities from face painting to bouncy castles and pony rides. Nicola planned this amazing event in memory of her Mum who sadly passed away in November 2007 and raised an amazing £5,366 for Ovarian cancer action. We are so grateful to Nicola, her Dad Mack and friends for their fantastic efforts.

A Hole-in-one for Helen!

Helen and Ron

Ladies Captain at Sleaford Golf Club, Helen Morton is letting nothing stand in her fairway, as she raises lots of awareness and funds for Ovarian cancer action! Helen held a Charity Blue Golf Day on the 15th July, with pin badges on sale, a raffle and fines for members not scoring on the 9th and 18th holes. The day raised a tee-rific £477 and Helen still has lots more exciting events planned for later this year!

We were thrilled to hear Helen’s fantastic news this week:

Dear Jane
Another six monthly check today and I am delighted to shout out loud, after three years, I have crossed a line, I have a good chance of the cancer NOT coming back!!! Have a very large drink with me this evening please....God, I am one very, very happy bunny. May this bring hope to other fourth stage ovarian overcomers.
Thank you Jane, and thank you to all the team, I will continue to support Ovarian cancer action. Thank you so much for your support.
Lots and lots of love

Love is in the Air!

Sharon and Darren

Love was certainly in the air for a couple of our supporters this year. When Sharon contacted us to ask whether we had any favours which she could give out at her wedding in June in memory of her mum, we were more than happy to send her some of our lovely teal pin badges for her guests to wear. Sharon and Darren tied the knot in Italy in June. They looked stunning, their wedding attire being complete with the ultimate accessory - their Ovarian cancer action pin badges! Congratulations to the happy couple!

If you would like to order some of our teal blue pin badges, or perhaps our new red or gold heart 'Love Women' pin badges for your wedding or special occasion, click here

Something’s Brewing…

Several of our supporters have held tea parties to raise vital funds and awareness for Ovarian cancer action over the summer. Michelle Last and Freda Mackay organised their Garden Party on 28th June in Norfolk in memory of Michelle’s mum, Jill, who died last year. Guests were treated to an afternoon of tea, cake, a raffle and bric-a-bric and the afternoon raised £1,030 for the pot! And in Chichester, Jose Pound’s Garden Party guests indulged in strawberries and cream and other tea time treats to raise £1,292 for Ovarian cancer action.

The Sky’s The Limit!

Laura

Brave supporter Laura Haworth raised an incredible £1,350 by jumping 12,000 ft out of her plane in support of Ovarian cancer action and in memory of her Grandma. Other super skydivers last month included Kerry Barber and Sam Loveless who have raised an ear-popping £475 and £1,050 each so far!

A Family Affair

Janet and Karen

On September 7th 2008, there were two different women’s running events taking place across London. In Bushey Park, Hampton, sisters Janet Mills and Karen Stainsby took part in the Every Woman’s Duathalon in memory of their Mother who died from ovarian cancer 10 years ago. On the other side of town, Tina Bolton ran the Adidas 5k Women’s Challenge in memory of her mum June Bolton, alongside her aunt Suzanne Gammon for Ovarian cancer action, raising a fabulous £1,345 between them!

We had lots of ladies take part to raise funds for Ovarian cancer action and they are still letting us know how they got on, so watch this space for an update!
