The 1st Ovarian cancer action international conference was held at the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in London and was attended by over 200 delegates made up of leading researchers and clinicians from around the world.
The meeting was chaired by Professor Hani Gabra, Director of Research for the Ovarian cancer action research centre. Introducing the meeting, the UK Cancer Tsar, Professor Mike Richards, said that late diagnosis is a major problem, especially in the UK where he believes women are diagnosed later than elsewhere.
Keynote speeches from Professors Bob Bast (MD Anderson), Mike Birrer (NCI, Washington DC) and Michael Bookman (Fox Chase) set the scene as to where researchers must focus in order to make the most impact in translating science to benefit for the patient.
